Lk 8: 16-18

“No one after lighting a lamp hides it under a jar, or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret that will not become known and come to light. Then pay attention to how you listen; for to those who have, more will be given; and from those who do not have, even what they seem to have will be taken away.”

Lighting the Path

Sunshine Laws are laws that require states to make government records and meetings available to the public. They get that name from a saying that goes: “Sunshine is the best disinfectant” because it brings light to everything—good, bad and ugly. They help the public sees what those in charge are doing, giving them the power to then vote, petition, or otherwise get involved to make change within their community.

Luke says today that there is sun shining on our lives: there is nothing that we can keep from God. And while this may make us uncomfortable or ashamed at times when we have failed, it is a good thing. God can clear the clouds away and light a path that leads us closer to him.

Prayer

Lord, you are the center of my life:
I will always praise you, I will always serve you,
I will always keep you in my sight.

Light up the World

Welcome to JesuitPrayer.org

Ignatian spirituality reminds us that God pursues us in the routines of our home and work life, and in the hopes and fears of life's challenges. The founder of the Jesuits, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, created the Spiritual Exercises to deepen our relationship with Christ and to move our contemplation into service. May this prayer site anchor your day and strengthen your resolve to remember what truly matters.
